First Aid for someone with a jellyfish sting

Stings from most jellyfish can be painful. If the jellyfish is from tropical parts of Australia it can be life threatening.

Treatment for non-tropical jellyfish stings

Jellyfish that are found in non-tropical parts of Australia (such as the Bluebottle) are generally not life threatening.

Rinse the well with sea water (not fresh water) to remove all of the tentacles and don’t rub the sting area.

Treatment for tropical jellyfish stings

Jellyfish from tropical parts of Australia include the Box and Irukandji. These jellyfish are very dangerous and can be fatal.
